The Collector August 1 9:30-1:30
Take a look into the museum's collection. How do museums display artifacts and where do they keep the things they aren't showing? Get a closer look at our Gramma Gene display and a look at our collection storage. Bring a few of your own items (3-5 small items under 5x7x1") to make a collection display of your very own. The Scientist August 8 9:30-1:30 (FULL!! Waitlist Only) Take a look at science in the museum. Learn about the biggest dangers to our artifacts - light, water, temperature, and you! We will get close up with the mining display and talk about geology. Then we will look at some physics and chemistry experiments to better understand how small things can cause big damage. The Explorer August 15 9:30-1:30 Take a look at how artifacts are found. What is ethical collecting? And what is repatriation? Why does it matter? After a closer look at the HBC & Prospectors displays, we will explore what it means to be a responsible collector. We will also have a chance to make a replica historic game to take home. The Writer August 22 9:30-1:30 Communicate about communication! What are ways of gathering information? And how do we share it? Take a closer look at the Indigenous display. There's different languages, but there's also writing, objects, and videos. We'll explore different ways of sharing ideas. |
